Tech news you might care about today

I don't normally post tech stories, but maybe I'll start. Anyway, here are three tech stories from today that you might care about. Well, at least, I found them insteresting.

Apple's official response to why iOS devices are logging location

According to Apple, your iOS device isn't logging your location for some insidious purpose. It's keeping track of cell towers and wifi networks to make a GPS acquisition of your iOS device's location quicker by narrowing down the search area—sorta like indexing your hard drive to speed up Spotlight or Windows Search functions.

Mobile advertisers aren't keeping up with consumers

"71% of smartphone users search because of an ad they’ve seen either online or offline; 82% of smartphone users notice mobile ads, 74% of smartphone shoppers make a purchase as a result of using their smartphones to help with shopping, and 88% of those who look for local information on their smartphones take action within a day."

Apple products are selling like hotcakes! Windows still selling better.

Silicon Alley Insider's Chart of the Day showing Windows 7 outselling all Apple devices combined.

It sort of bothers me that the chart says "iOS Units (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac)" when the Mac isn't an iOS device.
